Privacy Policy

Your privacy and the privacy of your personal information are important to us.

Our people will always be honest and open in their dealings with you and will only collect information that is necessary for us to manage our operations and deliver the best possible products, services and advice.

As a subsidiary of the Royal Automobile Club of Western Australia Inc (ABN 33 212 133 120) (RAC), BetterLabs Pty Ltd (BetterLabs, we, us or our) collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information generally in the manner set in the RAC Privacy Policy. You should read the RAC Privacy Policy to understand our general personal information management practices, and how you may generally exercise your privacy rights.

This Supplement sets out differences or more specific information about the personal information we collect, hold, use and disclose in connection with BetterLabs' business operations. To the extent of any inconsistency between the RAC Privacy Policy and this Supplement, this Supplement shall prevail.

Your personal information

In addition to the types of personal information set out in the RAC Privacy Policy, we may collect the following types of personal information from or about the following categories of individuals, including:

  • If you sign up for, purchase or use a product or service from one of our incubated businesses – information required to provide you that product or service, including your name, email address, contact details, payment details including bank account or credit card details to collect payment for our products and services (if relevant), information required for account setup, and details about your device and your use of the relevant app or service

  • If you are a representative of one of our suppliers, contractors, or potential suppliers or contractors, or of a company in which we invest – your name, contact details including phone number and email address, title and role within that organisation

  • If you are a job applicant for a role with us – your name, contact details, references, and information from your resume including qualifications and previous work history

  • If you sign up to any of our email marketing lists – your email address.

BetterLabs believes that any personal information we hold about you should be carefully protected to ensure that your privacy is maintained.

Why do we collect personal information?

BetterLabs collects personal information about you for the purpose of assessing an application submitted by you for a product or service, providing you with the product or service of your choice and the ongoing administration and management of that product or service.

The personal information that we need for this varies from product to product. If you wish to know more general details about the personal information that we collect for a particular product, please contact us.

In addition to the purposes set out in the RAC Privacy Policy, BetterLabs collects, uses and discloses personal information, depending on the nature of your interaction with us:

  • Generally:

    • To identify and communicate with you

    • To manage and operate our business

    • To help us to manage and enhance products or services we provide to you

    • To help us to manage and enhance goods and services we procure from our suppliers and subcontractors

    • To conduct research for the purposes of improving existing products or services or creating new products or services

    • For business support purposes including maintenance, backup and audit

  • If you are a customer or user of our, our, or our incubated businesses', products and services – to provide those products and services

  • If you purchase our, or our incubated businesses', products and services – to collect and process payments for those products and services

  • If you visit or undertake work at our premises – to provide for the safety and security of our personnel, sites, and visitors

  • If you represent a business in which we invest, or one of our suppliers or contractors – to manage our relationships with the businesses in which we invest and with our suppliers and contractors

  • If you are a job applicant for a position with us – to process your job application

  • Generally – as otherwise permitted or required by law, including to comply with our statutory and legal obligations.

How do we collect this information?

We only collect personal information by legitimate means. We normally collect personal information directly from you over the phone, through the mail using paper application forms or electronically over the internet.

However, in some circumstances, such as when a product or service is purchased as a gift, we collect personal information from a third party, this may include friends and relatives.

In addition to the information set out in the RAC Privacy Policy about how we collect personal information through the use of website analytics tools, cookies, tracking and other technologies, we may also collect personal information through technologically automated means when you purchase, download, install or use an application, product or service we or our incubated businesses provide. More information will be provided in the relevant terms of use or notices provided when you sign up to or use those applications, products or services.

To whom could we disclose your personal information?

In addition to the third parties set out in the RAC Privacy Policy, we may disclose your personal information to third parties, including (but not limited to):

  • Other entities within the RAC group including our related and subsidiary companies – to help us provide you with more efficient service, to keep you informed about our products and services, including RAC products and services and other non-branded products and services, and for the other purposes set out in the RAC Privacy Policy

  • Representatives, agents or contractors who are appointed by us in the ordinary operation of our business to assist us in providing goods or services or administering our business (such as for website hosting, data storage or processing, printing, mailing, marketing, planning and product or service development)

  • Professional service providers and advisors who perform functions on our behalf, such as lawyers – to provide advice, products or services to us in connection with our businesses

  • Banks, lenders, valuers, insurers, brokers, auditors, business consultants and IT service providers – to provide advice, products or services to us in connection with our businesses

  • The new owners, operators or potential purchasers of any part of our business or assets in connection with our divestment or potential divestment of such business or assets, including if we seek to divest part or all of BetterLabs or any of our incubated businesses – so that we can transfer or sell and the new owners, operators or purchasers can assess and continue to operate the sold business or assets, including its related personal information such as the associated customers or marketing databases. This operates as an exception to any statement in the RAC Privacy Policy which otherwise requires us to obtain your prior express consent to sell or trade your personal information

  • Government, regulatory authorities and other entities – as may otherwise be permitted or required by law.

Please contact us, if at any time:

  • you would like to know more information about which companies we regularly deal with and what personal information they receive from us; or

  • you wish to stop your personal information from being used or disclosed for the purposes set out in this Supplement.

We will consider such requests and action them where lawful and reasonable, but there may be reasons we need to continue to use or disclose your personal information.

Direct Marketing

It is our aim to provide you with access to a range of leading products and services offered by us and any other organisations whose products and services we promote. To do this, we use the information you provide to us for market research so we can better understand your needs. We may also, subject to your consent where required by law, use and disclose your personal information for direct marketing purposes as set out in the RAC Privacy Policy, as well as for the further purposes set out below.

Where you sign up to a BetterLabs-incubated product or service or to any of our mailing lists, we may also contact you to promote other BetterLabs-incubated products or services, or products and services of third parties BetterLabs has invested in.

You may choose to opt out of our marketing activities at any time by advising us via the unsubscribe function or other contact information provided in any marketing you receive. Alternatively, you may advise us by contacting us directly as set out in this Supplement.

Please note that it may take some time to fully implement your request not to receive marketing or promotional materials. We apologise if you receive any materials during this period.

Transferring your information overseas

Sometimes our suppliers, contractors or agents or other third parties we may disclose your personal information to are based overseas, or otherwise have data storage facilities overseas where your personal information will be stored. We may transfer information about you between countries including outside of Australia if required for a relevant purpose described in this Supplement. These countries will include any country set out in the RAC Privacy Policy from time to time.

Can you get access to view and correct your personal information?

Generally, you have the right to know all the personal information we hold about you. You can also request that we correct any personal information we hold about you. You can request access to view and/or correct this information by contacting us directly as set out in this Supplement.

We will handle requests to access or correct your personal information in the same manner as set out in the RAC Privacy Policy.

What can you do if you have a complaint?

If you believe that there has been a breach of privacy or you do not agree with a decision we have made about your access to personal information, you can make a complaint and we will endeavour to resolve it by following our internal complaint resolution process. You can provide the details of your complaint either verbally or in writing by contacting us as set out at the end of this Supplement.

When we receive your complaint, we will ensure that it is handled by the most appropriate person. This person will review your complaint, consider the facts and will provide a response within a reasonable time after receipt of your complaint.

At every stage of the process we will ensure that you are advised about the progress of your complaint.

What if your complaint remains unresolved?

This Supplement may be amended by us from time to time and if we amend this Supplement we will post the changes on this website, and make copies available to you on request.
